Project Details

Construction of the J-Wing consisted of a three-storey vertical expansion built directly over the emergency department and intensive care unit areas. The scope of work included: elevator extension, separate mechanical, electrical and sprinkler systems; also the design of the operating rooms included windows. For Toronto East General Hospital, windows in the operating rooms were a new concept. The three-floor addition was performed while the existing building was occupied at all times. As a result, the staging area, tower crane, traffic, safety and receiving materials were always a high priority concern. A key factor in the success of the Toronto East General Hospital J-Wing was our ability to establish, communicate, maintain and execute a well-planned schedule that encompassed all aspects of the work-Preconstruction, Construction and Post Construction.
